So I left out the best part about our trip to Gatlinburg. The day we did the trails to the waterfalls we saw a bear. And not like way far away as is usual. Like there was a bear 30 feet away. (I'm not a good judge of distance, but I think that's pretty close.) We had just finished the hike to Rainbow falls and were heading to the trailhead for Grotto falls. There were a bunch of people standing in the road with their cameras and such, so Dusten was watching as we drove by and while I was busy eating a pb & J, of course. Dusten said, "It's a bear." I was like, "Ok, but let's keep going." Well of course that didn't happen, we pulled into the parking lot and walked into the middle of the Roaring Fork Parkway with everyone else, camera in hand. Dusten was stalking the bear with the camera and I was chatting with some mom who was trying to get pictures of her kids and the bear, without letting them get too close. Then the bear comes out of the brush on the side of the road and crosses the road right in front of us. He was moving pretty fast, so it was hard to get a picture, but we do have, and I'll try to remember to upload it later.
We ended up walking back from Grotto falls with that mom and dad and their kids. Interestingly enough his grandmother used to go to our church and he went to AU for a couple mdiv classes. They live and work somewhere in Ohio now. It seemed like we saw more people with connections to Madison County while we were there. I was wearing my AU sweatshirt, which apparantly is the thing to do. We saw so many people from Alex and Elwood, it was creepy.
Also, this post is completely random, as I will write about whatever I have been thinking about writing for the past week, but haven't.
Thanks to the City of Anderson, the Tryons now have free wireless internet in their office only. That will be interesting when we have a baby if that is still the case. You'd think if it works in the office it would work in the bedroom, but it doesn't. So, it's been very handy lately, because D and I ordered our Christmas cards from home (so cute!) and our water heater has been on the fritz, and D ordered a repair kit online. We have to relight the pilot normally twice a day, if you're lucky it will last one cycle. It's probably hot water all day long and shuts off at like 5 pm so there's just enough time for it to be freezing cold when I get home. Which is usually ok, but bedtime keeps getting pushed back later and later cause I have to wait for a hot shower before bed, and it's usually worth it.
As far as Thanksgiving goes, it is at Debbies this year. We usually don't head to Terre Haute for Thanksgiving, because D and I have to work on Friday. We will see my fam that weekend as we are heading up to Grand Rapids for Grandma's 80th birthday party on Saturday night. Should be a good time. I'm really looking forward to it. I don't see my dad's side of the family but one a year now, and I haven't seen my family since their anniversary party in August. We got Grandma a digital photo frame. It's 12 inches and preloaded with lots of beautiful family photos. I'd like to keep it for myself. This year is just flying. Today however is taking forever. It's only 2 o clock right now, and I'm staying until 6:30pm. I have a haircut at 7 and then Biggest Loser at 8. Hope I get home in time for that.
I didn't stay over last night, because I wasn't feeling well. He wasn't either, in fact, he was really bad. I felt sorry for him. He didn't get to come home early last night, but I think he's feeling a little better today, because he did go to work. Tomorrow I'm working 11 hours, and then it's Turkey day!!
This next segment has good news and bad news. The bad news first: D and I aren't putting up a Christmas tree this year, which leads us to the good news. We're not putting up a tree because D is going to be finishing the trim and floor stuff in the living room and kitchen! Yay! I've been waiting for 2 years. I am so excited for it to be done. We're really not home enough to enjoy a tree anyway. I'll still put up the rest of my decor and I'll make D put up the lights outside too. So far my themes for Christmas presents have revolved around pictures. It's been a lot of fun, and I think that everyone will like them. It's a cheap, but excellent gift. Doesn't mean that you're getting a picture, but I def considered giving you one..
Well that's all for now. I read some more books, so maybe I'll update that now..
