The News is out

We told the TenBrink fam last night. It started out that they were going to come up for Father's Day and see the updates on the house and such, but Dad has to work Father's day and he had to work the Sunday before. So we decided that we would just meet for dinner instead. So we were going to meet them last night in Plainfield for dinner at 7. Mom called at 4:30 and said that Dad was really sick with a head cold and wasn't going to be coming. Great. So should we tell them or not tell them? I am ready for everyone to know already! The longer we try to keep it a secret the harder it will be. So I decided to just tell them without Dad. We went to Red Robin and after we ordered I said, "It's too bad Dad couldn't come, because we brought his Father's Day present with us. But we got one for each of you too." So I passed them out and got my camera ready to take pictures. Mom reacted pretty much as I had expected. She said, "Oh, my God. You have got to be kidding me."
Then she just kept saying, "what month? what month?" I didn't know if she meant how many months pregnant am I or when am I due, so I didn't react in a quick manner. Luckily D stepped in and finally said January. She started to cry of course. Gerrit made fun of her for crying--as usual.
Then we all did the impression of how Dad would react. He doesn't get excited very easily unless you're missing an arm or bleeding profusely. He ended up calling me when they got back home to the Haute. He sounded really sick but the way he said, "Hello, this is Grandpa Phil" cracked me up. I asked him how he found out, because we had debated whether we should call and tell him, or if they should just go home wearing their shirts and see how long it took for him to notice. In a normal day I think it would take him a long time to notice--plus the fact that he was sick--I thought he'd probably be asleep before they got home. But I think he was excited. He told me he found on the Internet--Obama tracks all the pregnant women, because it's good for the economy or something. That shouldn't surprise you if you know my dad. So I really don't know how they ended up telling him. Then he went into his whole doctor spiel about how I should walk and drink lots of water..yada yada.
I still have a couple more people to tell before it is officially official.

Telling Dusten's grandma was fun too. Our water heater was fixed on Saturday, but on Monday they were still working on the furnace. So Dusten told her that they had to disconnect the water heater to finish the furnace, and that we would need to come over for a shower. She said she would make us dinner and it worked perfect. After dinner we were sitting on the couch in our usual spots. I pulled out my camera and took a picture of Dusten half asleep on the couch. Then I told them to look like they liked each other and she leaned in. Then I said, "Ok, now say, we're pregnant." And she did, but she didn't get it. Then after the picture she said, "You're not are you?" And I said, "yes" and then she reacted. She didn't believe us for a minute which made it pretty funny. So we sat there for another 20 minutes and then she got up to call Brenda and Chris. She didn't even realize that we had set her up for dinner and a shower. We brought our shower bag fully intending on just taking showers there, but I didn't want to, so we ended up going home. It's funny how fast the news travels. On Sunday we had people congratulating us and we have no idea how they found out. I guess that's part of the fun.
