The only notable event this Christmas was the trip from Anderson to Terre Haute on Decemeber 23. I took the day off work to run some errands and get things ready to go. We left Anderson at 2:30. It had just started raining ice and the roads were starting to get icy. It took us 3 hours to get to Plainfield which is normally a one hour drive. We were driving 20 on I-69 and sliding all over the place. We stopped in Plainfield to get a cheeseburger to hold us over until dinner. The roads were starting to be better and we figured it would take and hour and a half to two hours to get to TH. I told D I wanted to get a milkshake, cause what's better than a McDonald's cheeseburger and a milkshake. In hindsight, I should have insisted on it. The plan was to arrive in TH around 7 watch Christmas Vacation and eat appetizers. That's been the tradition for the past couple of years. Well we arrived in Terre Haute at 1:30 AM. I was such a pain. We got onto to I-70 and instantly got stuck in traffic. Not heavy traffic mind you, but stand still traffic. We literally sat there for 3 hours without moving a foot. We were fine to that point, but we were really starting to get irritated. We were starting to get hungry, tired, and we had to go to the bathroom. Turns out the hold up was about 30 miles ahead of us. Putnam County had not salted or sanded their roads, and the semis couldn't get up the hills, so there was a huge back up. Gerrit's Christmas gift was potato chips so we had food in case of an emergency we could just get him something else for a gift. Luckily it didn't come to that.
But both of us did end up going to the bathroom in a cup. It was not fun. We couldn't go outside, it was raining ice, plus there were cars backed up for miles. By time we got somewhere there was food, we were too tired to eat, and just kept driving. Pretty much everything was closed due to the weather, so we kept on trucking. Let's just say we were very glad to finally get there, and next time if there is bad weather in the forcast, we will wait until the next day.
